Byte RAID Drive

The conventional HDD:
  • 4 magnetic disks, 2 heads per disk, 1 head per side.
  • Read avg 60MB/s, write avg 30MB/s @7200rpm.
Advanced HDD dream:
  • 4 magnetic disks, 16 heads per disk, 8 heads per side.
  • Read avg 480MB/s, write avg 240MB/s @7200rpm.
The conventional SDD:
  • Non phisical drive.
  • Read avg 110MB/s, write avg 60MB/s @simple r/w mechanism.
Advanced SDD dream:
  • Non phisical drive.
  • Read avg 880MB/s, write avg 480MB/s @8 bytes Byte RAID r/w mechanism.
Extreme SDD dream:
  • Non phisical drive:
  • Read avg 44GB/s, write avg 24GB/s @4Kbytes Block RAID r/w mechanism.
  • PCI Express 16x interface.

What is Byte RAID?
  • D in RAID means disk.
  • In a normal byte to bit read write mechanism, we split 1 byte to 8 bits and write it to each of disk's side. In a bit RAID, we split up to 8 bytes simultaneously. It will boost the disk performance up to 8 times.
8 heads on each side of disk? (may be more)
  • Yes. Because the read write speed in each track is different, we can only follow the maximum speed in inner head. The inner head start from arround the middle of tracks to maximize read write speed. It will reduce the drive overal capacity, but we get the performance rises up to 8 times.
  • In extreme SDD, we can build a mechanism that split every file block (4Kbytes) in a single read write, and this will be the fastest drive ever built!
